My Real Food Approach

First off- it’s NOT A DIET!!  I don’t believe in diets. It’s a lifestyle approach to how I enjoy food. So what exactly does that mean? For me, it means enjoying whole real food and limiting the highly processed stuff. It’s something I naturally do most of the time, because that’s when my body feels the best and functions the best. For me, it’s enjoying food in its simplest state.

Not sure what I mean? Here’s some things to consider:

  • Can I grow this?

  • Can I hunt this?

  • Will this die/does it have a shelf life?

  • Can I pronounce all of the ingredients AND find them in my cupboard or know where to find them?

For the most part it’s pretty simple. Veggies, fruits and lean sources of protein (animal and plant)  all check the box for “real food” on my list. Does this mean I NEVER eat things like cookies, ice cream, muffins, french fries, soda, pizza? Absolutely not. I love all of these things and I eat them. But my body doesn’t always love me back when I eat a lot of this or eat it regularly. So I eat them in moderation because that’s what works for me. And I fully enjoy myself when I do eat these things. For me it also helps meal time easier as I don’t have to think much beyond baking or grilling a couple of things and using kitchen staples like garlic, salt, pepper, herbs and citruses to add some fun flavors. No food should be off limits. Enjoy what you want and lean in to how you feel.
